When I was growing up there was a part of me that always wanted to be a writer and I showed just how much I wanted to be a writer by never writing anything. That I suppose is the difference between actually “wanting” to do something and just thinking that you like the idea of doing something.

At the age of 16 I decided that I wanted to learn the guitar. However I feared that my parents would say no and so didn’t bring it up until I was 17 and a half. Once I actually started learning the guitar, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a musician and write songs that would make people happy.

Shortly after highschool I joined a band named Owned and Operated as their bass player. I played with them for about eight months before quitting for reasons that seemed valid at the time but were really kind of lame.

A year later I attended Visible Music School in Tennessee. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. I went as a vocal major, because I didn’t have a clue how to sing and that was a pretty big hindrance with my songwriting. During the year that I was at the school I was in two short lived bands. One was named 3am and the other was named Lasting Effect. There was nothing lasting about Lasting Effect.

Several years later myself and a few friends formed a band named CrewmanNumber7. We recorded a five song EP with producer Barry Blair and played several shows. After two years together, the band fell apart, but it was the most enjoyable band I’ve ever been involved in.

Since then I have been slowly but surely figuring out who I am and who I am capable of being as a solo artist. I’m sure that one day I’ll form or join a band again but right now I am looking forward to continuing to craft my own music.

Oh and about wanting to be a writer? Well I’m finally doing that to. I’m in the midst of writing my first novel right now and it’s been amazing so far. I don’t know if it will be anything that anyone else wants to read when it’s done but the feeling of joy and satisfaction that I derive from crafting a novel-size story makes me really regret all those years I spent “wanting” to be a writer.

Not that my pen has been completely silent during my adult years. I spent several years running a music review website which ultimately succumbed to disrepair after I moved out to the country and spent four years on dialup before rejoining the broadband masses. I also co-authored a webcomic for two years with my friend Matt, who did all of the artwork. And of course, I write this blog. My novel I’m writing however, is the first real piece of fiction I’ve written since highschool.

If you want to learn anything more about me just keep reading my blog. :)
